False agreement effect

With the tag "Cognitive Error" sometimes I want to talk about them. in this post I want to talk about False agreement effect. I'm inspired by the last paragraph of a lesson in Rolf Dobelli book named "The art of thinking clearly".

"Assume that your worldview is not borne by the public. More than that: Do not assume that those who think differently are idiots. Before you distrust them, question your own assumptions."

I really like this taught, for example when we get together with friends or writing in twitter we talk about different things such as peoples, society, politicians, special groups of people with special taught(restricted Muslims) as we may think they are stupid to go to mosque in COVID-19 days, or prefer to go to Iraq or Saudi Arabia, or about racism stuff when I was in Zahedan getting my bachelor, some of my friends when there is no Baluch guy around them try to make fun of them, or don’t have warm greeting with them. but what if in some point the other group is right? don’t you have any example about this in your life? for example I see them drinking water while they sitting down, but now a days I know this is better for our body.

just consider China or India people with different ideas don’t want to accept, understand and respect each other what will happen? and look India or China today.

so, thinking and talking more with people with different ideas, make us more well behaved, and when solidarity comes then development and peace comes.

for this cognitive error I define these micro actions:

  • have greetings with people in your class or work which you don’t greet them before
  • travel to places you don’t like to travel before, Afghanistan, Iraq, Turkey, Baluchistan or Tehran.
  • read a book, see a movie or just short clip in YouTube about them.

I hope you enjoy reading this post, comment what other micro actions you know that can help?
